Now this STORY that was posted up by the LONG BEACH PRESS TELEGRAM a few days ago announcing their plan to bring a bicycle rental program to the city of Long Beach, Ca. The Bike Nation Inc. of Tustin has proposed to invest $12 million to Long Beach to create a bicycle rental network that would include 250 bike share stations, 2,500 bikes and 3,750 bike docks over a extended 10 year contract with the city. The locations for these proposed bike stations has not been set up or identified yet but they plan on having a “significant” number of these stations open and available for rental by January 1st of this next year. I myself am super stoked to hear this news and was super stoked on the pricing plans they have set up. I think the best part for me is if you use them for less than 30 minutes it is at no cost to you. The rental plans are very affordable as well starting at only $75 for the year and offering a rate of $60 to students that qualify for the program. There is also more affordable ways to rent them as well, such as $6 for 24 hours, $12 for 72 hours, $25 for 7 days, and $35 for a month. The prices may vary but its the 30 minutes or less for free to me that is so sick ! Cities such as Anaheim and Los Angeles have made similar contract agreements as well.
A great example of a program like this is going on in Mexico City , Mexico. They have a program right now that is so big that they had to stop taking new members because there was not enough bikes ! I know I can not wait until the day when I see this many bikes on the streets. I know for sure when gas prices just keep rising it is inevitable that people are going to need to find more affordable ways of transportation.
Now this little experiment is something I have thought about doing before but have never gotten to it yet. I am surprised how nobody ever tried to question what it was that he was doing while he stole his own bike time after time. I think it was really shocking that the only person that stopped and talked to him just showed him a better way to break the lock and chain to steal the bike. What is even more shocking is that in at least 3 of these different scenarios you see a police officer near by or even in the background …. “to protect and to serve?” … my ass ! Well I hope this vide is a wake up call for many of you out there to invest in a good U-lock because not ont time did he try and break open a U-lock. Remember if you do purchase a U-lock device be sure to get the smallest one possible so it does not allow enough space between your frame and the pole you lock it too for a car jack to fit. Yes I said it, a CAR JACK ! Most U-locks that are broken into are popped open by using a car scissor jack that is typically found to come with any car that has a spare tire and jack. So stay smart and think about where you lock your bike and think about it … a bike can be replaced but it is usually the memories of good times you miss most when losing a bike. I know I love every one of my bikes !
Now when I first saw this I could not decide if it was fake or real. I think until the day I see these items in person and for sale I can not trust that this is for real. The concept is very creative although it may a bit cumbersome to wear a neck piece like that in hot climates even opposed to wearing a helmet. I wish these airbags were also installed in the helmets we ride with today however we may see those too in the near future. Now there is rumor that these have gone for sale already in Europe but I can not find any info on that to back it up. No matter what these helmets are super sick but what would happen if you hit something with sharp edge … will that puncture these “invisible helmets” and cause them to fail ? Or will the inflation of a bag full of air be enough to prevent head trauma or even pressure that may be applied to your head following a crash or even worse multiple impacts ? ….. I guess I need more proof of these being safe or real. #realtalk
“If people say it’s impossible we have to prove them wrong.”
Design students Anna and Terese took on a giant challenge as an exam project. Something no one had done before. If they could swing it, it would for sure be revolutionary. The bicycle is a tool to change the world. If we use bikes AND travel safe: Life will be better for all.

So this Sunday August 19th. there will be a “Kidical Mass” ride leaving from Los Cerritos Park in Long Beach, Ca. at at 1:00 pm. This bike ride is mainly for little kids and families to come out and ride together in a safe friendly environment while learning about bikes and bike safety. This ride was first brought to my attention by GRAHAM BADEN(HEAD MECHANIC AT THE WORKSHOP LB). Graham is also a parent so he tries to get involved in events that promote kids to ride bikes. This Sunday you can find Graham and myself out at this event working on bikes and handing out free helmets to kids, all compliments of THE WORKSHOP and PRO-TEC HELMETS.
When you come out this Sunday please remember the theme is to decorate your bikes ! Kids and adults of all ages are welcome to attend this event. The ride will leave promptly at 1:00 pm from Los Cerritos Park led by Olympic Cyclist Tony Cruz. The route is about 2.5 miles and will end at Summerset Park for a BBQ. If you have questions please call (562)-595-0081 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
WHAT IS KIDICAL MASS?
Kidical Mass is a legal, safe and FUN bike ride for kids, kids at heart, and their families. The first ride was held in April 2008 in Eugene, Oregon and has now spread to over a dozen communities throughout North America and beyond. The rides are meant to be family friendly bike rides through a community.
Kidical Mass Bixby Knolls will host rides that connect the community to the businesses in Bixby Knolls. Our goal is to show people how easy it is to get around in Bixby Knolls by bike and support local business.
All types of bikes, trailers, trail-a-bikes, Xtracycles, longtails, bakfiets, Long Johns, tandems, folders, trikes, and whatever rolls are welcome! We celebrate the fact that Kids are Traffic Too and aim for family fun on vehicles that don’t hurt the future! It’s just another excuse to pedal around town with your family.

One of my last stops while I was in San Francisco had to be the BOOMBOTIX headquarters. This was my first time going there and was greeted by a team of 7 of the coolest employees ever. On top of that it had to be one of the coolest offices I have ever been too before. Because the headquarters is on a main street they have made it into a walk up store front as well displaying dozens of the most unique and colorful PORTABLE MP3 SPEAKERS I think anyone has ever seen.
Inspired by art the owner of BOOMBOTIX has combined music with creativity to bring us a ON THE GO SPEAKER that is of the highest quality as well. If you are in the market for a SOLUTION to those quite bikes or just about any adventure you may take in life. These little speakers BUMP and are backed up by a 1 YEAR NO MATTER WHAT WARRANTY which is pretty hard to beat. I have put my SPEAKER through hell and back and is still going strong. The crew at BOOMBOTIX has provided me with a DISCOUNT CODE that will save you 15% OFF on your BOOMBOTIX PURCHASE. I just bought the BLUETOOTH MODEL and will let you all know how that goes as I put it through some tests.
******THE DISCOUNT CODE IS MASHAFIX******
