So yesterday was the first of four events for the Fortune 700 Race to the End of Summer Sessions III. The racers were faced with a 3 lap time trial of the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Ca. Each lap was approximately 3.57 miles which ended up being a total of 10.71 miles. This was mapped out courtesy of the event coordinators for this event series. I think the highlight of the day had to be the run by Edgar “WILLO” Juarez, who finished with a time of 20:37 which was 1 minute and 22 seconds ahead of the second place time for mens fixed gear. Not only was Edgar’s time good enough to win the Mens 1st. Place for fixed gear, but his time also beat the 1st. Place Mens Road division by 31 seconds !!! WOW ! THIS GUY IS A BEAST !!!! Edgar “WILLO” Juarez averaged a pace of appx. 31.16 mph for the entire 10.71 mile time trial. I still can not explain how incredible this was to see happen and the fact that he is a good friend made it that much more special. So congratulations again to Edgar and to all of the winners yesterday who came out and gave it their all. I can not wait to see what happens next Sunday !
This is SERIES of 4 Sunday events with each event being unique in it’s own right. So this Sunday August 19th. there will be a “Kidical Mass” ride leaving from Los Cerritos Park in Long Beach, Ca. at at 1:00 pm. This bike ride is mainly for little kids and families to come out and ride together in a safe friendly environment while learning about bikes and bike safety. This ride was first brought to my attention by GRAHAM BADEN(HEAD MECHANIC AT THE WORKSHOP LB). Graham is also a parent so he tries to get involved in events that promote kids to ride bikes. This Sunday you can find Graham and myself out at this event working on bikes and handing out free helmets to kids, all compliments of THE WORKSHOP and PRO-TEC HELMETS.
When you come out this Sunday please remember the theme is to decorate your bikes ! Kids and adults of all ages are welcome to attend this event. The ride will leave promptly at 1:00 pm from Los Cerritos Park led by Olympic Cyclist Tony Cruz. The route is about 2.5 miles and will end at Summerset Park for a BBQ. If you have questions please call (562)-595-0081 or email info@bixbyknollsinfo.com
WHAT IS KIDICAL MASS?
Kidical Mass is a legal, safe and FUN bike ride for kids, kids at heart, and their families. The first ride was held in April 2008 in Eugene, Oregon and has now spread to over a dozen communities throughout North America and beyond. The rides are meant to be family friendly bike rides through a community.
Kidical Mass Bixby Knolls will host rides that connect the community to the businesses in Bixby Knolls. Our goal is to show people how easy it is to get around in Bixby Knolls by bike and support local business.
All types of bikes, trailers, trail-a-bikes, Xtracycles, longtails, bakfiets, Long Johns, tandems, folders, trikes, and whatever rolls are welcome! We celebrate the fact that Kids are Traffic Too and aim for family fun on vehicles that don’t hurt the future! It’s just another excuse to pedal around town with your family.

“We will be out here tryin’ to function at Pedalfest this weekend in Jack London Square this weekend. The East Bay bike community is growing strong as they have developed their own full fledged hipster culture. The lower rent expenses allow them to purchase more PBR than ever. The climates comparable to San Francisco’s Mission District are bringing out our most attractive tattoo laden riders. Make your way over to Jack London Square and check out some of Boombotix’s ultraportable speaker line including the Jason Clary pro model.” via BOOMBOTIX.com
