KIDICAL MASS

KIDICAL MASS from The Workshop LB on Vimeo.

I have always loved going to Critical Mass bike rides but when I got a chance to help out with a local “Kidical Mass” ride in my community of Long Beach, Ca. I could not help but want to get involved with a awesome event like this for kids. I must give a special thank you to one of the MASHAFIX.com sponsors that donated over $1000 in brand new bicycle HELMETS for these young kids. So from all the kids and parents you helped out and THE WORKSHOP LB we give a HUGE THANK YOU to PRO-TEC HELMETS.

The Workshop LB would like to give a special thanks to PRO-TEC for donating over $1000 in helmets to help keep these young riders safe. PRO-TEC.net

On Sunday August 19, 2012 a large group of parents and their children got together at Los Cerritos Park which is located in Bixby Knolls, Ca.(long beach). This was not just any ordinary bicycle ride. In fact, this is something very special that is put on every month to help young bicycle riders learn to ride as a group while also learning all of the laws of the road to help keep them safe. Kids from all ages showed up on this particular Sunday afternoon to take part in this group bike ride. The Workshop LB has been taking part in this event by offering free bike tune ups and maintenance tips to all parents and kids that come out to Kidical Mass, but this time was even more special because PRO-TEC Helmets has teamed up with The Workshop LB and Mashafix.com to provide free helmets to these young riders. PRO-TEC believes in tradition and so many many adults have grown up wearing PRO-TEC helmets that it is why we pass along this tradition to the kids that come out for this event. We encourage anyone in the LA County and Long Beach, Ca. area to come out and take part in Kidical Mass. If you would like more information on Kidical Mass in Bixby Knolls, Ca. please visit bixbyknollsinfo.com/kidicalmass.html or call 1-(562)-595-0081

Welcome to the Team – Edgar “WILLO” Juarez

Here is a short clip of Edgar doing some training over at THE WORKSHOP LB bike shop on his fresh built UNKNOWN LV2 track bike. He is not only the newest, but the first member to the UNKNOWN BIKE CO. fast bike team. Not only did Edgar join up with UNKNOWN BIKE CO. but he has also joined forces with THE WORKSHOP LB. I expect some big things in the near future for Willo. Right now he is focusing hard on racing on the velodrome but training vigorously for the upcoming Lord of Griffith race on September 2nd. To Edgar he is still a “UNKNOWN” just like the bike he rides and until he keeps winning I can promise you that he won’t stop until he is number one. This guy is a beast and you can find him training everyday over at THE WORKSHOP LB pushing a 49/14 ratio like it ain’t no thang !! #YOUKNOWWAZGOOD !!

MASHAFIX bike check with jahrome

Now out of all the bikes I own this has to be one of my all time favorites for sure. Master painter JOSH HARRIS did an amazing paint job on my LDG AERO FRAME. When you hear the term “candy paint”, well here it is ! When the sun hits this paint job it is almost blinding with all metallic red flake in the paint. What really surprised me was the overall weight of this bike. I was expecting it to be a bit heavier because of the paint however it is still easily under 16 pounds. I was able to shave quite a bit of weight by using all carbon fiber components. The LDG FRAMES were specifically designed around the EASTON EC90 products so if you are in the market for one of these FRAMES then I suggest using these parts as well for they are readily available at the LDG storefront in Huntington beach, Ca. I would like to give a special thanks to all the guys at LDG for helping me build this bike up.

Edgar “WILLO” Juarez recieves his 1st. place package from 2012 Woflpack Hustle Crash Race

If you have not heard the news yet about the 2012 Wolfpack Hustle LA Marathon Crash Race then here it is for you … 1st. place Mens Fixed Gear went to none other than my good friend Edgar “WILLO” Juarez. It really means a whole lot to not just me but to the fixed gear community of Long Beach, Ca. to see Edgar win 1st. place. This guy was training non stop for this event and has been winning almost every race he competes in. Not only is Edgar fast; he is one of the nicest and most humble people you will ever meet. I ran into him at the local bike shop City Grounds as he was picking up his prize package from winning 1st. and shot this little video of him opening his new T-Level roll top back full of goodies. I really like his statement at the end of the video quoting the Wolfpack by saying this, “if you are not 1st. then your last.” and as Edgar says this he holds up the dog tags he just one again for the camera to see. All I can say after that was PRICELESS !! STRAIGHT UP ! I really look forward to seeing Edgar race and crush the competition even more while representing all his friends and local Long Beach supporters. I would also like to congratulate Edgar on winning a spot at this years Red Bull Ride + Style in San Francisco, Ca. !!! This is truly special to see him go !!! Now as Edgar would say in any occasion and especially if he is passing you …. “OOOOOOOOOOOO YEEEAAAAHHHH!!!”

Mashafix.com presents – WEAR A HELMET

Now this is something I am sure many of you out there never ever expect to have happen to you, but the reality of it is that no body and I mean NO BODY EVER PLANS on stuff like this to happen. This footage was taken yesterday during a Sunday bike ride with a good friend of mine. We were approaching the intersection at a speed of at least 20mph + when a car who was supposed to yield to on coming traffic decided to turn and hesitate causing my friend to do his best to avoid her while also not going left into on coming traffic. The end result was definitely painful I can tell you that and my friend promised me to get a helmet after this. He walked away from this with some road rash to his face and a gash on his hand from going threw her back passenger window. In this case he is fortunate to walk away with minor injuries. As for his bike …… well let’s just say he is going to be needed a new bike as well hahahhaha !!! So I hope many of you out there realize weather your are mashing threw traffic or doing tricks that anything can happen and its not always about “LOOKING COOL” …. trust me you will look a whole lot “COOLER” with your brains inside your head. #YOUKNOWWAZGOOD

Mashafix.com presents – ROYAL HC FLASH COMP

PLEASE LINK TO www.MASHAFIX.com
www.ROYALHC.WORDPRESS.com

So this was the first official ROYAL HC FLASH COMP and I am super stoked to be a part of it. The day started off with almost a hundred kids waiting out side of local bike shop City Grounds in downtown Long Beach, Ca. This had to be one of the biggest turn outs I have ever seen for a Fixed Freestyle Comp and it had nothing to do with Pro riders this time except having Joe McKeag, Antonyo Wothe, and Justin “CONGO” Mitchell being the judges for the comp. At about 11:15am on February 18 the group headed out to Houghton Skate Park led by Joe McKeag. Also leaving city Grounds was the Ally Cat Race. The race consisted of just over 11 miles and 2 check points which was won by “WILLO” and Morris Anthony came in 2nd. Place. The FLASH COMP had two categories featuring a Sponsored and Unsponsored class of amateurs. For the unsponsored class Hector Carillo took 1st. Place and for the sponsored category Marco Marquez took 1st. place. These kids went all out and it was so much fun to be there with kids competing that were half of my age. These kids are getting so good and there is no doubt in my mind that these kids are the future of Fixed Freestyle as a sport. Watching kids throw bikes around that were almost as big as they were was priceless and yet so sick ! I really look forward to seeing the next ROYAL HC FLASH COMP and hope to get a chance to film all these riders again. This was the first comp I have ever filmed with only 1 camera so please do not be upset if I missed a trick because there was so much going on and having multiple riders to watch out for on the course was insane hahaha. Enjoy the video guys I give you ALL MAD PROPS FOR SOME SUPER SICK RIDING !!! YOU GUYS WENT HARD IN THE PAINT !!!

Mashafix.com presents – LDG welcomes Joe McKeag

Filmed and Edited by – www.MASHAFIX.com/JahRome

Location – Huntington Beach, Ca. at LDG Store

Rider – Joe McKeag

Here is something that nobody saw coming. Joe McKeag is now riding for LDG. Not only is Joe riding for LDG now, but he is now riding 26′s !!!! Now that is a SHOCKER !!! Joe built up his brand new LDG HAMMER Frame laced to some PROTOTYPE 26″ RESIST Wheels !!! These are the only sample pair in existence so I would not count on seeing these in any stores soon. So bottom line is we have lots of big news going down in this video so stay tuned for some sick edits from the LDG squad because now with Joe on the Team I would have to say between him, CONGO, and Jakob Santos these guys are probably one of the most solid teams out there. Stay tuned for more exclusive coverage from www.MASHAFIX.com

Mashafix.com presents – #HUYAFIXTHIE

So this is the second week in a row I got to go out filming with the LDG Fixed Freestyle team but this week we brought Joe McKeag along for the fun. This video is also the first time Jakob Santos rides 26′s !! Yes I said it ! … JAKOB SANTOS on 26′s !! He still has his 700c around so don not think for one moment that he has completely switched over. I am sure it is going to be much easier for Jakob to throw around his 26 inch build so I would expect to see him riding that over his 700c in the future but in the mean time just sit back and admire how this guy kills no matter what he rides. I swear as long as it has wheels this guy will kill it no matter what he is on. Congo also throws together some sick lines as usual. It was a fun day riding out in HB although we never got a chance to ride the HURLEY Skate Park we made the best of things by finding a few local spots to hit up. We should be out filming again tomorrow as long as it does not rain but either way stay tuned for more weekly videos from the LDG camp and Mashafix.com. #HUYAFIXTHIE
