THE REBIRTH OF THE LASER
“The Laser was introduced for the first time in the 80′s by Cinelli. He revolutionized the world of cycling by his design.
More than 30 years later, it stills one of the most amazing bike frame ever produced.
Next year, in 2012, the Summer Olympic Games will take place in the great city of London. The track race culture will be at the center of the event.
6 moths ago, i realized that it could be the perfect time for Cinelli to reintroduced the Laser. So i started trying to imagine the 2012 Cinelli Laser, using 3D software.
“A carbon made frameset inspired by the geometry of the classic one but update to track racing of our days”
The contemporary carbon material have been choosen. It allows to create wonderful aerodynamics shapes with all the stiffness that a carbon track frame is due to have. I didn’t want to create a crazy design like the original frameset, but a vision of the frameset that correspond to contemporary track race.
After creating the frameset, that was not enough for me so i started design all the components that could be on the frame.
For that, i started looking at what campagnolo ingeneered during last years. the cranks are Record Pista crankset but update with a external bottom bracket to increase stiffness.
Hubs are a reedition of the amazing Sheriff Star hubs with a new design, inspired by original one, and covered with an amazing black anodisation.
Then i started thinking about the rims… For many olympics events, Campagnolo created a specific rim design (Mexico 68, Atlanta 96 …) so i decided to create Campagnolo London 2012 carbon rims.
Then, what about the seatpost and the handlebar ? 8 month ago i designed a stem/handlebar combo that i called THE SHARK. It’s a carbon made combo with a 100mm stem and a 42cm width handlebar. The seatpost is 31,7mm diameter, made of carbon.
The saddle is a San Marco Zoncolan with some modifications to keep the “concept” spirit.
I work during 7 month on this project, during my free time, making a lot of different part design and try to choose the best one for any component. An hard work, my first achieved bicycle design !
So here it is, the 2012 Cinelli Laser Concept with Campagnolo track groupset and SHARK parts.” -BEHANCE NETWORK
I saw this picture of Jakob Santos new prototype Resist sprocket posted up via WHEEL TALK and had to re post it. I know a lot of companies including Resist have been experimenting with lightweight aluminum sprockets but time after time I have seen these types break and snap which is NO GODD. I like the steel concept especially for its strength and overall durability. This Resist sprocket looks very similar to the prototype EIGHTH INCH prototype sprocket I saw last November at the SF Bike Expo. Be on the look out for constant changes in sprocket design out there.
“I took this picture of Jakob Santos’ prototype Resist sprocket the last day of our trip down south. I’m digging the overall look and design of this new sprocket, finally some originality. It seems like more and more companies are beginning to drop aluminum and build solid 1-piece steel sprockets. As apposed to using high grade aluminum (7075) w/ a steel insert, which can develop play overtime. Steel is real.” -WHEEL TALK FIXED
Ramon finally trades in his 700′s for 26′s. It seems like everyone is going 26 …. TREND MAYBE??? Who really knows, but I can tell you that the change from a positive to a negative bottom bracket is GNAR not matter what. I can not wait to see some footy of Ramon riding his new whip. SICK !

The Cinelli Laser Nuova Evoluzion is such a unique frame. It almost reminds me of a BAT MOBILE in reference to the design of this frame. It almost makes some sense because the first BATMAN MOVIE was released back in 1989 which is when this frame was made. I wish I could get my hands on one of these, but from what I have read about this I believe this is the only one in existence and oddly enough it has never ever been built up ! What really blew my mind was this was tagged as 650c which really threw me off guard.

Gabe is one of the sickest young riders out there today. Just getting his fakie wheelie to bar spin out recently, Gabe is one of the rising stars to come in the Fixed Freestyle world. Paul from ROYAL HC put this video together showing of Gabe’s bike. SICK !
It has been a has been piecing together this bike and I am very happy to finally finish it. Weighing in at appx. 15.65 lbs. this bike feels amazing. The frame is a prototype in which I love but I am going to upgrade it to the UNKNOWN BIKES LV1 FRAME soon which is slightly lighter at only 3 lbs. Besides that I could not ask for more. I would like to thanks everyone who helped me put this together, especially the crew over at CITY GROUNDS, seriously you guys ae the best !!! I would also like to thank UNKNOWN BIKES for letting me test out their new track frame before it hit production. I would also like to add that if many of you out there have never gotten a chance to ride a legit track bike than I highly suggest you do so one day because it is an experience like no other. And if you ever get a chance to go out to a local velodrome to watch an event or have an opportunity to ride than take it because it is so much fun !! I can not wait to test this out on the track one day.
