RARE CAMPAGNOLO CHAIN RINGS

So if you were to ask anyone what name comes to mind when they are asked what is the most prestigious manufacturer of all time when it comes to cycling I would bet at least 8 times out of 10 they would say CAMPAGNOLO. When I dropped in the THE BICYCLE STAND the other day my friend Evan showed me these rare CAMPAGNOLO chainrings he had recently come upon.

First take notice of the uniqueness of each of these 4 chain rings and the differences that set them apart. I know one of these is a 56 tooth ring and that right there is rare in its self, but what is even more crazy about the rareness of this particular chain ring is for those of you out there that know about this will take notice to the holes that are drilled out in the chain ring. These chain rings do not come stock like that from the factory. In fact the process in which is used here is called DRILLIUM. Drillium is a delicate process that is usually done by machine however it appears that these chain rings were done by hand. If you look closely you will be able to notice the slight imperfections. Now before you go around drilling holes in your chain rings just take in mind that this is a tedious task in which the holes must be drilled in a specific places in which the structural integrity is not compromised when a large amount of torque is placed upon the chain ring. In today’s era we have super lightweight materials such as aluminum being one of the most popular so there is not mush need for weight to be shaved especially with many frames being constructed of carbon fiber.

Second, I would like to point out one of the 54 tooth chain rings is also drilled in such a way where the original owner had tried to recreate the CAMPAGNOLO clover logo and had even went a step further by chiseling the stems of the clovers by hand. This process was called PANTOGRAPHING in which back in the day was a method used by builders to make their mark on high end bicycles that they would build. This is truly a one of a kind find by Evan at the THE BICYCLE STAND.

Third and finally I would like to point out the fact that CAMPAGNOLO chain rings never came in black. The black 54 tooth ring was powder coated by the original owner. Then on top of already making it unique in color the owner went a step further and also drilled the chain ring by hand. Simply amazing !!
