FORTUNE 700 SERIES TIME TRIAL recap

fortune700flyer

So yesterday was the first of four events for the Fortune 700 Race to the End of Summer Sessions III. The racers were faced with a 3 lap time trial of the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Ca. Each lap was approximately 3.57 miles which ended up being a total of 10.71 miles. This was mapped out courtesy of the event coordinators for this event series. I think the highlight of the day had to be the run by Edgar “WILLO” Juarez, who finished with a time of 20:37 which was 1 minute and 22 seconds ahead of the second place time for mens fixed gear. Not only was Edgar’s time good enough to win the Mens 1st. Place for fixed gear, but his time also beat the 1st. Place Mens Road division by 31 seconds !!! WOW ! THIS GUY IS A BEAST !!!! Edgar “WILLO” Juarez averaged a pace of appx. 31.16 mph for the entire 10.71 mile time trial. I still can not explain how incredible this was to see happen and the fact that he is a good friend made it that much more special. So congratulations again to Edgar and to all of the winners yesterday who came out and gave it their all. I can not wait to see what happens next Sunday !

I must give a special thank you to one of the MASHAFIX.com sponsors that donated over $1000 in brand new bicycle HELMETS for these young kids. The Workshop LB would like to give a special thanks to PRO-TEC for donating over $1000 in helmets to help keep these young riders safe. PRO-TEC.net

On Sunday August 19, 2012 a large group of parents and their children got together at Los Cerritos Park which is located in Bixby Knolls, Ca.(long beach). This was not just any ordinary bicycle ride. In fact, this is something very special that is put on every month to help young bicycle riders learn to ride as a group while also learning all of the laws of the road to help keep them safe. Kids from all ages showed up on this particular Sunday afternoon to take part in this group bike ride. The Workshop LB has been taking part in this event by offering free bike tune ups and maintenance tips to all parents and kids that come out to Kidical Mass, but this time was even more special because PRO-TEC Helmets has teamed up with The Workshop LB and Mashafix.com to provide free helmets to these young riders. PRO-TEC believes in tradition and so many many adults have grown up wearing PRO-TEC helmets that it is why we pass along this tradition to the kids that come out for this event. We encourage anyone in the LA County and Long Beach, Ca. area to come out and take part in Kidical Mass. PRODUCT REVIEW // FAMLI STRAPS los angeles

I think the first thing that stood out to me with the STRAPS was the color purple. I have yet to see very many companies use such a deep color purple like FAMLI STRAPS does. Besides that I like how the straps are reinforced with metal at the ends of the straps to keep them from fraying over time. The straps are also fairly stiff yet not to stiff so for some it may be a more comfortable strap for everyday use as well as tricking. After 2 weeks of vigorous testing these straps look pretty good for the abuse they were put threw. So if you are looking for a good Fixed Freestyle strap that is not only affordable but comes in many different color options then I suggest you check these out. I will have them down at THE WORKSHOP LB on display for a few days so if you are in the area be sure to come by and check them out…. and did I mention they are HAND MADE RIGHT HERE IN LOS ANGELES CALIFORNIA !

The top tube pad is definitely longer than most top tube pads I have seen or have used before. For those of you that are doing tricks this is definitely going to cover the entire top tube so if you are looking for a new top tube pad FAMLI STRAPS has got you covered their and they have many different color options to choose from as well.

The HIP POUCH is very spacious and also has a hidden pocket built in that if there was not a note attached to the hip pouch when they sent it to me I would have never found it hahahahah ! Besides the secret pocket I really like that this bag has plenty of space to fit all my tools, tube, and bike pump for when I want to go for a ride and not have to lug around a huge bag. One thing I noticed about this pouch was that it did not have a U-Lock holster built in to it as many other hip pouches on the mark have built in. However despite this I could really care lees because the size of the pouch makes up for that and I have always been one to put my U-Lock in my belt as I ride.

BICYCLE SHARING PROGRAM coming to long beach …

Now this STORY that was posted up by the LONG BEACH PRESS TELEGRAM a few days ago announcing their plan to bring a bicycle rental program to the city of Long Beach, Ca. The Bike Nation Inc. of Tustin has proposed to invest $12 million to Long Beach to create a bicycle rental network that would include 250 bike share stations, 2,500 bikes and 3,750 bike docks over a extended 10 year contract with the city. The locations for these proposed bike stations has not been set up or identified yet but they plan on having a “significant” number of these stations open and available for rental by January 1st of this next year. I myself am super stoked to hear this news and was super stoked on the pricing plans they have set up. I think the best part for me is if you use them for less than 30 minutes it is at no cost to you. The rental plans are very affordable as well starting at only $75 for the year and offering a rate of $60 to students that qualify for the program. There is also more affordable ways to rent them as well, such as $6 for 24 hours, $12 for 72 hours, $25 for 7 days, and $35 for a month. The prices may vary but its the 30 minutes or less for free to me that is so sick ! Cities such as Anaheim and Los Angeles have made similar contract agreements as well.

A great example of a program like this is going on in Mexico City , Mexico. They have a program right now that is so big that they had to stop taking new members because there was not enough bikes ! I know I can not wait until the day when I see this many bikes on the streets. I know for sure when gas prices just keep rising it is inevitable that people are going to need to find more affordable ways of transportation.

Cardiel x Chrome: Sacramento to Chico

Such a sick video showing off the new CARDIEL BAGS FROM CHROME. John Cardiel and professional fixed freestyle rider Ed “WONKA” La Forte take off for an epic 103 mile ride from Sacramento to Chico, Ca. and MR. SKYLMT Colby Elrick captures all of the good times along the way including a stop at the Sierra Nevada brewery. I feel bad for WONKA having to ride his TRICK BIKE to commute the entire 103 mile route hahahahha !!! One things for sure though; the new CARDIEL BAGS from CHROME are definitely going to be a huge hit and are going on the top of my list of must haves. Check out the CHROME WEBSITE and pick up your JOHN CARDIEL BAG x CHROME bag today.

Introducing the new LDG Compound Cog

LDG Compund COG insta

PINNED_COG_1

Check out this new cog by LDG these guys are coming with non stop innovative products that are nothing but high quality and style. Check out the LDG WEBSITE for more info on these news COGS and other new PRODUCTS and DESIGNS.

Introducing our new pinned construction cog, this design took months to develop the proper tolerances for achieving its unique mechanical construction.

LDG took a different approach to traditional cog design and started thinking out the box. The outer teeth are CNC’d from 7075-T6 heat-treated aluminum and mechanically fastened through six stainless steel, and two brass pins, to the body. The body is sculpted from a solid piece of stainless steel and precision crafted to house the outside teeth. The amount of precision it takes to pin the outer cog to the body meant that we had to machine all facets of the material to ensure the pins would properly seat. The outside cog was anodized black and then further machined for a two-tone look.

The first production run of 15T will be available soon, followed by a release of the 16T, 17T and 18T sizes shortly after. Pricing will be set at $59.99 each.

USA vs. CANADA – by Coolassmike

So for those of you out there that are lucky enough to have been to a velodrome track before and witnessed these amazing athletes flying around the track at speeds of over 40 mph than I suggest you treat yourselves to it at least once in your lifetime. I personally have only been a few times and each time I learn so much that I never would have ever learned about riding these track bikes or “fixies” as you will hear from most people now. Most people that see kids riding around the streets on a fixed gear bike just see a bright colored bike with “no brakes” and assume it is dangerous to ride like that. On the contrary it is not; riding fixed is actually one of the safest ways to travel on a bicycle. I would strongly recommend a hand brake as a back up especially if you are new to riding a fixed gear drive train. Even if you are and just like to go fast just trust me when I saw the hand brake will make you go faster. One big reason is because your not tire checking going down hill or having to skid which slows you down. A hand brake will give you the advantage of only having to tap your brakes when necessary for short period of time letting you take downhills more aggressively. Anyways back to track racing ahahhahaa ! These videos are heats between USA vs. CANADA taken by COOLASSMIKE ON YOU TUBE. This video was take at the LA VELODROME on 1/22/2012. So definitely check out the LA VELODROME WEBSITE FOR UPCOMING EVENTS like these especially because most events like this one are FREE !!! Treat your self to some good times and educate your self about fixed gear riding and see what everything evolved from in terms of the design of these bikes and the way they are all used to do trick similar to a BMX bike.
